Eskal Free Nut Butter Smooth

SM-Eskal-Free-Nut-Butter-Smooth-6x450gINGREDIENTS: sunflower seed, sugar, emulsifier (471), salt, antioxidant (306).

The Allergy Brothers are not allergic to peanuts, but Big’s school is peanut free so we thought we would try nut free “peanut” butter. Unfortunately, this is really sweet. Too sweet. Also, it tends to separate out, which Big was very unkeen on. So not a big success for us.

Update : 5th September, 2015, I have just discovered that Eskal do a no added sugar version of this free nut butter, which might be worth trying.  Please let us know if you tried it!

Elements for Life Raw Chocolate Cake

original_yummy-scrummy-raw-chocolate-brownie-10-barsINGREDIENTS: Ecuadorian Arriba raw cacao butter and powder, dates, walnuts, natural fruit extracts (apples, grapes, carob), raisins, Brazil nuts, goji berries, raw cacao nibs, Madagascan boubon vanilla, Himalayan salt.

There were some differing opinions on this. Little loved his first piece and came back for more. Big hated it and spat it out. Then Little decided he didn’t like it either because he has to do everything his brother does! I thought it was much better than I was expecting; it was rich, but sweet, and yet intensely chocolatey.

Ten Acre Crisps: When Hickory Got BBQ’d

Hickory_40g_2014_A3-433x512INGREDIENTS: Potatoes, Sunflower oil, Barbecue flavouring (sugar, rice flour, paprika, cayenne, black pepper), salt, tomato powder, onion powder, sodium diacetate, garlic powder, yeast extract, smoke flavourings, paprika extract, citric acid E330.

It’s Friday night, you have got the nibbles, and the kids are in bed so you can’t leave the house to forage at Tesco Express. What is a girl to do? In my case, it was crack open this pack of crisps I had snaffled away for a rainy day.

I should state from the beginning that I don’t like BBQ flavour that much so it really is a testament to how good these crisps are that I ate the whole lot and then picked out all the little bits at the bottom of the packet. They have amazing crispness without having an artificial texture or feeling oily. The flavour was good too, like real food!

These crisps are gluten free, dairy free, MSG free, Vegan, Halal and Parev. I will definitely be buying them again…

Om Bar 60% Coconut

ombar-coconut-probiotic-chocIngredients – Raw Cacao, coconut sugar, raw coconut cream, cacao butter, vanilla pods, and probiotics.

This isn’t a new product, but the price had always put me off trying it (£1.80-2.50 ish for a very small bar). Today, I saw a bar half price so I thought I would try it

My initial impressions were good. The texture is closer to milk chocolate than plain, and it seemed really creamy. However, it left me with an unpleasant ashy aftertaste. This actually increased with each mouthful so it was quite unpleasant by the last piece (I like to be thorough and complete my chocolate tasting!).

In conclusion, would I buy it again? No, coconut is one of the boys’ allergens so it is no good for them. And no amount of healthy rawness and probiotics is going to persuade me to eat yucky chocolate. Chocolate is a food just for pleasure in my opinion. This is expensive way of ruining that.
