Hadleigh Maid Dark Chocolate Walnut & Mallow Whirls

No dairy walnut whirls!

Ingredients: Cocoa Mass, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Glucose Syrup, Invert Sugar Syrup, Walnut, Gelatine (Bovine), Water, Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin), Natural Vanilla Extract, Stabiliser (E452).

May contain Milk/Nut traces.

I like the Hadleigh Maid company.  They are based close to where we live, in the next county, Suffolk.  Unfortunately, the Allergy Brothers had never been able to try their products before.  Sadly, they couldn’t get past the shape of a walnut whirl!  They have never eaten shaped chocolate before, as they only eat bars of Kinnerton Free From chocolate.  Allergy Little would not believe me that it was edible, “but chocolate is square, that is too pyramidy!”

I took one for the team and tried them.  The dark chocolate was pretty good quality with a cocoa solids minimum of 56%.  The mallow was yummy, but it’s a shame it contains beef gelatine.  Maybe the Hadleigh Maid company could come up with a vegan version?

Choceur (Aldi) Dark Chocolate – Lubecker Marzipan Hearts

20150719_125503

Ingredients – Marzipan (76%) (Sugar, Ground Almonds (49%), Water, Humectant: Invertase); Dark Chocolate (24%) (Cocoa mass, Cocoa butter, Sugar, Emulsifer: Sunflower lecithin).

Love, love, LOVE these marzipan hearts!  They taste really good.  The individually wrapped chocolates are a perfect size for slipping in a lunchbox.  The boys aren’t allergic to them.  They are a reasonable price (thank you, Aldi).  It’s not very often all these requirements line up so forgive me for shouting.  WE LOVE YOU, LUBECKER HEARTS.

Suma Plain Chocolate Raisins

0008744_suma-plain-chocolate-raisins_300Ingredients – raisins, cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, glazing agents: gum Arabic and vegetable protein, soya lecithin.

Here at Allergy Towers, these are kept for the grown ups because a) I am not sure “vegetable protein” narrows it down enough and I like to know exactly what the Allergy Brothers are eating and b) they pack quite a punch as they are really properly dark chocolatey. They come into their own about 4pm on a rainy day in the middle of the school holidays when you need something to get you through the last bit before bedtime, but gin seems a bit wrong.

Torino Noir – Swiss Dark Chocolate Confection with Truffle Filling

Torino-46g_noirIngredients – sugar, cocoa butter, almonds, cocoa mass, hazelnuts.

This is Swiss chocolate but most of the packaging is in Hebrew. It seems to be aimed at the Kosher for Passover market so I am not sure how easy it is to get hold of. It would be worth the effort as you get a yummy finger of chocolate coated truffle. It would make an ideal lunch box treat. It’s small, sugary and hits the spot.
